Lumens and Kelvin are here to stay, so it’s time to master which bulbs are for you.  And luckily, it’s easy to grasp. Lumens are similar to watts, which determine the brightness of the bulb. And Kelvin determines the warmth of the bulb. It is measured in degrees from 1,000 to 10,000 in color temperature. The lower the number, the warmer the color. The warmth we’ve come to expect from Incandescent bulbs is in the 2,000-5,000 range. I notice at night that many homes glow with a bluish cast, and that is because their bulbs are in the higher range of Kelvin. It definitely has a colder look. I personally like the warmth of 2,700-3000K bulbs for most of my lighting. Here’s how to zero in on the right bulb for your space:
